OSPRE I Further Study

Our tip for studying would be to take whatever you can to assist you. As stated earlier, not everyone studies in the same way so a variety of methods should be tried to see what works. There is no real substitute for practicing question after question after question.

Blackstone’s police law books     These are the ONLY official O.S.P.R.E. exam syllabus books. An absolute must and only use the 2010 manuals.

On line question packages           These are available from a number of suppliers, all of whom are very similar. Whilst any are of use, we would recommend a package from www.police-training.co.uk . They are mainly concerned with corporate business but individuals can purchase packages from them at a reasonable cost. Check their website and e-mail for details.

Question and answer books        Again, a number are available for purchase. The Blackstone’s Q and A are probably the best and of course can be bought come as part of the package when buying the study books.

Crammer books                The market on crammer books is monopolised by Checkmate Publishing, Tom Barron. Whilst these books are clear and provide simplistic diagrams to address the subjects, not all of the key notes are included and there are some errors contained within. If you use these, it is probably wise to cross reference to the study material first before relying on the books. They are easy to carry and are definitely useful.

Mock exams       Sitting a full mock exam is worthwhile, if nothing else to check on timings and exam technique whilst under pressure. LEAD Associates run a full mock exam with trainer led debrief. Check the site for full details of forthcoming courses.

Crammer courses             LEAD Associates run four ½ day crammer modules which are put together into a two day crammer course, generally over a weekend. This unique method gives students the opportunity to attend as few or as many sessions as is appropriate to their needs.  Each session begins with a 15 minute knowledge check and this is followed by trainer led input, during which legislation and key notes are explained. Again, check the website for full details.
